On 6 April 1934, the Ibadan Native Authority gained official recognition of its independence from the Oyo province. Seven months later, Resident Ward-Price transferred the headquarters of Oyo province back to Ibadan. The return of the Residency to Ibadan during November 1934 inaugurated the city‟s reclaimed sovereignty in both practical and ideological terms.
