Decolonizing Afrikan Minds through Afrikan Centred Education – Baba Buntu

Studying a continent solely or largely through the lens and knowledge of outsiders I believe is an undermining factor towards understanding the history or any meaning political, socio-cultural and economic development of that region. It is the practice of Africans to neglect the scholarly or philosophical contributions of her natives especially in developing syllabus for her educational system. Such that the philosophy of Aristotle, Socrates and likes are studied while ignoring the philosophical contributions of Orunmila, Zeus amongst other. Other disciplines of Mathematics, Physics, History, Engineering and Sociology etc. are also guilty of this act as laws of gravity, innovation and technology are not contextualised in African knowledge for better understanding or as veritable tools for development.
Democracy in Africa Team have done well to put together a reading list that addresses Democracy on Africa continent by Africans which is no doubt a great steps towards the Indigenisation of knowledge in Africa.
