island in Leeward Islands of the West Indies.

The national day of Antigua and Barbuda is celebrated on November 1. On this day in 1981, Antigua became an independent state within the
Commonwealth Realm system. Queen Elizabeth II became the first queen of the nation and Vere Cornwall Bird became the first Prime Minister.
